Mel Gibson Stays In The Darkness. Avatar Takes It Down For 7 Weeks In A Row. Looks like Mel Gibson's return was no match for the power of James Cameron's Avatar. For 7 weeks in a row, Avatar has crushed anything and anyone who has gotten in its way. In its 7th week, it earned $30 million dollars, bringing it just shy of $6 million to overtake Titanic as the #1 domestic box office movie of all time. Worldwide? It sank Titanic. Avatar is now the leader with just over $2 billion dollars and I don't see how any movie can topple it. Of course, we all thought no film could beat Titanic either. Took a James Cameron movie to beat a James Cameron movie.

Edge came in a disappointing 2nd place with just $17 million. I know Warner brothers was expecting this movie to be #1. Heck, I thought it would beat Avatar too, but it wasn't meant to be. Sorry Mel.

When in Rome, a movie I will more than likely never see in my lifetime, came in 3rd with $12 million, which is $12 million more than this Mark Steven Johnson "comedy" deserves.

Everything else flattened out under the weight of Avatar. Legion went from being #2 last week to falling down to #6, and Alvin and the Chipmunks are still hanging in there, having earned over $383 million dollars worldwide.

Can the emotion forcing Dear John finally send Avatar packing? (Look for my Dear John review next week) Or will it be the action filled John Travolta movie From Paris With Love? I doubt it will be the limited release of Frozen that does it. Who will come out on top? Who knows at this point.
